It is difficult for the body to get water from any other source than water itself.
Did you know?
Soft drinks steal water from the body ~ for every glass of soft drink you have, you need to drink 8 to 12 glasses of water to compensate the dehydrating effects!
Milk, juice and coffee also require water and minerals from the body to be properly digested.
Soft drinks and other caffeine-containing beverages don’t allow the water to stay in the body long enough. Within an hour, your child will urinate more than the cup of beverage they drink.
Juices and milk are no substitute for water
When children are given fruit juice and soft drinks to the exclusion of water, it only compounds the dehydration problem. At the same time, this cultivates their preference for the taste of soft drinks and juices and reduces their natural urge to drink water.
THE FACTS ON WATER 1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half the world population.)
2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is mistaken for hunger.
3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism by 3%.
4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.
5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, slashes the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and you are 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.
THE FACTS ON COCA-COLA
1. In many US states the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.
2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke and it will be gone in two days.
3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the “real thing” sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.
4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.
6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
7. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.
Why do we get such a charge from a can of Cola or manufactured beverage? Its pH of 2.5 acidity (water to hydrate the body needs to be alkaline at around 7.4) sets alarm bells ringing all over the body.
Alakline chemical stores that should be used elsewhere are sacrificed to call the adrenalin that floods the system. The “high” you learn to expect is the same high as a drug user gets as he/she experiences his artificial sensory elevation. Your body is actually screaming “HELP”!
Excess acid forces the body to borrow minerals (already 100% engaged in children’s vital body function and growth needs) including calcium, sodium, potassium and magnesium, from key organs and bones to neutralise the acid and safely remove it from the body.
This excess acidity weakens all body systems.

The body manifests dehydration in the form of pain.
Depending on where dehydration is settled, you feel pain there. Pain is a sign of water shortage in the body, and water shortage is actually the background to most of the health problems in our society.
This is linked to the fact that many drugs readily available and consumed by the western world are various types of antihistamine in the form of different medications. Antidepressant drugs are antihistamines, pain medication are antihistamines, other medications are directly and indirectly antihistamines.
Why is this significant? Because histamine is a water regulator in the body. So the very substance in the body that is responsible for regulating the flow and usage of water in the body, is being suppressed every time a person takes pain medication, antidepressants or antihistamines.
Headaches The brain is more than 75% water and when it detects a shortage of available fluids it implements a water-rationing process by producing histamines, causing pain and fatigue. This natural process is meant to slow us down and conserve water for defense uses (just as an animal lies in the shade when ill). Histamines are released as a warning signal that something is wrong. When we take antihistamines or analgesic medicines like ibuprofen we mainly turn off the signal and do little or nothing for the problem. A big glass of pure water and a 20 minute decompression break will overcome most common stress-related headaches. (It takes medications longer to work than that!)
Back pain
It is often the result of a deficiency in body fluid levels. The discs in the back are really little hydraulic shock absorbers. These discs are made up of an outer shell of flexible joint tissue filled with fluid pockets, primarily water. A properly hydrated disk creates a cushion that absorbs the normal shock of physical activity and supports the weight of the upper body. These discs are self-hydrating as long as there are adequate fluid levels and regular movement. Movement that compresses and releases pressure on the disc creates a suction that allows body fluids (99% water) to be pulled inside the disc, keeping it properly hydrated. When a disc is fully hydrated, the shell of the disc supports 25% of the weight load and the fluid supports 75%. When these discs become dehydrated, the shell has to support a larger portion of the load, causing pain, swelling and soreness which can lead to more serious problems, also more permanent ones.
Passive activities like standing in one place or sitting at a desk without regular movement for prolonged periods, allow constant pressure on the discs which slowly forces the fluid out. Without sufficient body fluid levels and spine movement, the pressure on the discs increases, resulting in pain and stiffness. Simply by maintaining a constant and adequate intake of water, as well as regular movement such as bending forward, backwards and side to side, with your head and upper body allowing the discs to hydrate, you can prevent most minor back and neck pain. Try it; you’ll be amazed how easy and effective these natural solutions can be.
Drought management means that the body clogs the holes where water is lost from the body. Water is the most precious commodity in the interior of your body, and when not enough is coming in and more is being lost, this is a no-no situation for your body. The intelligence behind the design of the body is such that a drought management program will kick in. Allergies are a sign of dehydration because the system that regulates water balance of the body suppresses the immune system, because it’s an energy-consuming situation. Then you get asthma.
The link between dehydration and asthma You see, we lose about a quart of water through breathing every day. It is actually the surface tension in the alveoli of the lungs that produces contraction of these tiny membranes, and air is pushed out. And in the process, that water will leave with the air that is leaving. So you lose about a quart of water in breathing. We need to replenish that. When we don’t replenish it, the body tightens up the bronchials and plugs up the holes and we call this reduced air flow in the lungs because of dehydration, we’ve labeled it as asthma.
Now there are 17 million children in America and over a million children in Australia, probably more because the numbers rise every year, who have asthma. The reason is, at the same time, children have been consuming more and more sodas. Three year olds to five year olds have been consuming three times as much soda in the last ten years than in the ten years before that.
So these children are getting dehydrated, they are consuming more sodas, which doesn’t function in the same way as water, and that is why they get asthma. Dr Batman has treated many many children with water, and their asthma disappeared very quickly, in a matter of a few hours, with breathing becoming normal. The need for inhalers will also disappear.
Softdrinks cause dehydration
A lot of children who drink soft drinks actually become “stupid”, but once you take the soft drink away from them, their grades improve tremendously — C’s and F’s become A’s and B’s. So, there is something in caffeine that suppresses the enzymes from memory-making. And this is exactly how the plant survives, because caffeine is a toxic chemical – it’s a warfare chemical for the plant. Anything that would eat it will lose its art of camouflage, its alertness, good reaction, good response, and becomes easy prey to its own food chain predator.
Caffeine is technically an insecticide. So is morphine and so is cocaine. They are the same family of drugs — neurotoxic substances.
Cholesterol
Cholesterol is one of the most essential elements in the survival of the human body. When the body begins to make more cholesterol, it has a reason to do that. It is certainly not to block the arteries of the heart, because we measure the level of cholesterol in the body in the blood we take out of the veins of the body, and nowhere in the history of medicine is there recorded one single case of cholesterol ever having blocked the veins of the body.
So, it is not the stickiness of the cholesterol that is the problem, which has been drummed into the minds of people — cholesterol is sticky, reduce it otherwise you will have blockage of your arteries, which is all nonsense. Cholesterol is actually saving the lives of people, because cholesterol is a bandage, a waterproof bandage that the body has designed. When the blood becomes concentrated and acidic (which happens when a person is dehydrated), and is being rushed through constricted arteries or capillaries, in dehydration, then abrasions and tears are produced in the arterial system, naturally, in the capillaries of the heart first.
Now if cholesterol wasn’t there to cover up the tear and abrasions, blood would get under the membrane and peel it off and that person would be dead instantly. Cholesterol is actually an interim lifesaver, giving the body time to recover from its problems. Often the thought process is if something’s up, bring it down, if something’s down, bring it up. Often questions like “why is it down” or “why is it up” are not asked.
There is a report that shows the statins, cholesterol-lowering drugs, produce amnesia. In other words, the brain totally loses track of what it’s doing, and it is published by a doctor who is an eminent doctor. He was a flight surgeon, he is a researcher at NASA. And he knows what he’s talking about. He had the problem himself.
There are also a huge number of side effects that have been recorded from using statin drugs. Some people have extreme muscular pain, amnesia is very common, and yet a study just came out talking about how blueberries have phytonutrients that are shown to lower so-called fatty cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, more powerfully than statin drugs.
You see the body manufactures cholesterol as an emergency situation, when it raises the level of its production. Its normal rate of production is of course is to create membranes for the cell membranes and brain cells and nerve insulation and of course the hormones of the body, vitamin D for the body. So these are the essential components that cholesterol makes in the body. We should never interfere with cholesterol without knowing why the body has starting raising its level.
Chronic Disease Caused by Lack of Water
There is a clear correlation between water consumption and chronic disease. In his book called “Water Cures and Drugs Kill” Dr Batmangelidj explains why dehydration is the cause of pain and disease, and how the pharmaceutical industry has camouflaged this information or covered it up and instead of letting people drink water, it advertises the use of their products, which actually do kill.
Recent figures (US statistics but the trends are similar for Australia) have shown that prescription medications, when used according to the instruction of doctors, kill over 106,000 people, and make 2 million people sicker than before taking the medication. And then there is another group who die from faulty and incorrect prescriptions.
So between them, about 250,000 people die from drug-related or medication-related problems. This makes the use of drugs the number three killer processes in the USA — protected and licensed killer process. After heart disease, which kills about seven or eight hundred thousand, cancer which kills about 500,000, drugs kill 250,000 people.
The human body manifests dehydration by a series of symptoms and signs, perceptive symptoms of dehydration — in other words, brain senses dehydration, or tiredness when you haven’t done a good day’s work, or first thing in the morning when you want to get up out of bed and you’re tired, you can’t get up — that is a sign of dehydration.
Then anger, quick reaction, depression, these are all signs of dehydration, when the brain has very little energy from hydroelectricity to cope with the information or take action. These are some of the perceptive signs of dehydration. Then the body has its drought management program, which are allergies, hypertension, diabetes, and also immune diseases.

Recycled water is an issue that many Queenslanders are concerned about. The research I have done shows that the government (and others around the world), are filtering this water with the very best filtration systems available. Stripping everything they possibly can out of the water – this water will then be mixed into our dam supplies etc. to become part of our drinking water. The fact that they are trying to “strip everything other than water” out is very very positive with the current water filtration and disinfectant technologies (which we would expect at a minimum from our government and health authorities).
The UNKNOWN is that what is left in the “dead RECYCELD water” are potentially “drug residues”. However, the quantities of these drug residues is said to be very small (antibiotics, contraceptive pills etc.). They are not able to be measured with current technologies. My current reading and research leads me to believe that no one really knows what the consequence of any of this may be on our long term health.
So what I am doing is making available the zazen Alkaline Water System because of its exceptional filtration and enhancement rebalancing technologies so that we remove as much of these unknowns as possible BUT also take it to the next CRITICAL step. That is to REBUILD THE WATER TO SUPPORT OUR BODY’S NEEDS and support the body in releasing any of the toxins that we ingest from “just living” in our modern times.
By ensuring the body is well hydrated (see what that means below) means we HELP our body perform all its metabolic functions – INCLUDING RELEASING TOXINS which are DUMPED INTO CELLS by our blood so it can maintain a healthy alkaline level state! As we dehydrate the blood becomes thicker, and is not able to release as much fluid to cells, so cells are not able to perform at their optimum including completing all the metabolic processes which include releasing METABOLIC by-products. Over time our cells and bodies become more acidic or toxic.. the reason why so many advertisers push – “DETOX” etc. which is fine but not without adequate alkaline mineral water to flush out our cells continuously!
EFFECTIVE Hydration needs ALKALINE MINERAL WATER (FLUID + ionized MINERALS including the 3 ELECTROLYTE minerals). That is why I call water a NUTRIENT. It is in fact our foundation Nutrient. zazen Alkaline Water has a full (naturally created) balanced range of electrolytes and minerals. Electrolytes transport the Nutrients and the fluid into the cell – ensuring that the cell can perform all the METABOLIC functions including the RELEASE OF TOXINS effectively on an ongoing basis.
With Alkaline Mineral Water you hydrate so much faster because the water is in balance with the body’s needs and is absorbed immediately by the cells. Other water such as bottled & tap etc. need to go to the stomach and be rebalanced – have minerals released into them from the body so that the body can use it. In many instances the body simply passes the water out because many of us are mineral deficient and therefore the body cannot absorb the fluid and any nutrients through the intracellular wall – again compounding dehydration. So with alkaline mineral water – it acts as a natural detox process – enabling the cell to perform its metabolic functions more completely and effectively. That is why I am so passionate about educating people about this.
If we have to drink recycled water and breathe toxic air etc. then what’s the 1 key thing we can each do to make sure we are keeping ourselves and our families as healthy as possible that’s easy and convenient? DRINK ALKALINE MINERAL WATER and Help Your Body do the job it is designed to do, keeping you healthy and vital!
I know people who drank “high quality filtered water” for years – as soon as they start drinking zazen Alkaline Water - they are astounded to find that they feel “better” immediately and do not drink as much coffee or crave sweets etc. Yet prior they thought they were “well hydrated”. In fact they weren’t because most of the water passed through them. They also notice that they are less wrinkled! A sure sign that we are hydrating well.

Our children’s health is under threat.
Many studies show that children today are not drinking enough good quality fresh water. Without adequate hydration the brain cannot function properly, cannot focus, cannot concentrate and cannot remember. It is also documented in many studies that dehydration can lead to many diseases.
“When I’m dehydrated I feel sick, get distracted easily and can’t concentrate.” Heleena Rologas Yr 7 NEGS NSW
The human body is a miraculous feat of engineering. Yet, like any system, it has its limits. Today our childrens’ bodies are under siege from an onslaught of health challenges in quantities and combinations we have never before experienced.
These include deadly strains of micro-organisms, electromagnetic smog, radiation, genetically modified and chemically processed foods, polluted water and air ~ all of which, in combination or separately, undermind their potential for radiant good health.
We need to minimise their exposure to environmental toxins and help them cultivate wellness by making healthy lifestyle choices that keep their defenses strong.
The foundation to good health starts with drinking the right quantity of best quality water.
Water is required for every biological function of the body ~ circulation, assimilation, digestion, elimination, temperature control and even thought. Without water, even the best vitamins and minerals cannot be absorbed or made available for cellular processes and proper bodily function.
We need water as much as we need air. Yet it is easy to forget how completely we depend on it. And this fundamental understanding even gets missed on most Healthy Eating Guidelines for children and adolescents!
Water accounts for two thirds of our body weight, and every day we lose nearly 12 cups of it through normal bodily functions such as perspiration, removing wastes and even breathing.
Because our bodies have no water reserve system, we operate solely on the amount that has been made available by intake. Any water that’s in your child’s body is already engaged in an activity. Thinking, playing, eating, moving, exercising and studying are all examples of activities that need to be supported by a fresh intake of water.
So it is vital that we replace the water we lose. When we starve body cells of water, they start to complain and set up many adverse reactions. That is why we are focused on introducing this program of fresh living water into our children’s classrooms and homes.
Water accounts for nearly two thirds of our body weight But our bodies have no water reserve system – so we need to replace the 12 cups we lose each day through normal bodily functions such as activity, perspiration, elimination, etc…

We are about 72% water. It circulates as blood around your body – most of your blood is water. And the water is also in ‘lymph’ which travels around your body through your lymphatic system. Blood and lymph are the main ways the body gets food and oxygen to your cells and the way wastes get taken away – this is a very important job for water!! Blood and lymph also have special cells in them which fight infections – they are part of your ‘immune system’.
Water carries digestive enzymes around your digestive system, so that your food can be broken up into all the bits your body needs.
All the stuff the body doesn’t need has to get out of the body somehow.
Some of it goes from the blood to the kidneys, which make urine - which is mostly water.
Some stays in your gut and comes out as faeces - which is also mostly water!
Some comes out in the air you breathe (if you breathe onto a really cold mirror you will see little drops of water on the glass – this is water from your breath).
Water comes out through the tiny holes in your skin called pores. This water we call perspiration or sweat and it helps to cool our bodies.
Saliva, or spit as we usually call it, is mostly water. When our mouth feels dry we know we really need more water URGENTLY!
Mucus is also mostly water. That’s the stuff that you see too much of when you’ve got a runny nose! But mucus is very important, as it keeps eyes, ears, noses, throats and all your inside bits smooth and slippery so that everything can run around all your body systems without getting stuck!
Water is in the fluids that keep your joints moving smoothly [like knees and elbows] so that your bones don’t creak and groan like a rusty swing. You also use water to keep your body temperature even, at about 37ºC.
Now that you can see how important water is, you can understand why your body needs so much of it. Make sure you drink an alkaline mineral water, like zazen Water, so that your body receives all the nutritional benefits it needs!

Scientists, doctors and health professionals know that dehydration can be linked as the cause of many major behavioral conditions and illnesses. Poor nutrition & dehydration has shown to affect a child's school performance by:
Increasing fatigue
Reducing memory
Making concentration difficult
Increasing behaviours that mimic ADD/ADHD
The biggest trigger of daytime fatigue is lack of water.
A mere 2% drop in a child's body water can trigger:
fuzzy short-term memory loss
trouble with basic maths
difficulty focusing
fatigue and yawning
erratic and moody behaviour
constipation
aches and pains unrelated to an injury or infection
craving sugar, sweets and caffeine
The adolescent brain functions much better if at least 1 to 1.5 litres of quality water is consumed during the average 6.5 hours the student is in school.
When children are given milk, fruit juice and softdrink to the exclusion of water, it only compounds the dehydration problem. At the same time, a cultivated preference for the taste of these drinks will automatically reduce a child’s free urge to drink water. This effect will compound later on in adult life where eventually the signals of thirst get turned off and the dehydration state continues unabated. Studies show that up to 92% of Australians are dehydrated.
We need to impact the need for healthy choices at an early age… Let’s encourage the next generation to become the ‘wellness’ generation!
What happens to alkaline water once it reaches my stomach?
Written by: Vanessa Drummond, zazen Water - Tuesday, May 31, 2011
Among the people who question the validity of alkaline water, the biggest question is, “What happens to the alkaline water once it reaches the stomach, which is highly acidic?” People who have some knowledge of the human body, including medical doctors, ask this question. Let me answer that question once and for all to erase any doubts about the health benefits of alkaline water.
In order to digest food and kill the kinds of bacteria and viruses that come with the food, the inside of our stomach is acidic. The stomach pH value is maintained at around 4. When we eat food and drink water, especially alkaline water, the pH value inside the stomach goes up. When this happens, there is a feedback mechanism in our stomach to detect this and to command the stomach wall to secrete more hydrochloric acid into the stomach to bring the pH value back to 4. So the stomach becomes acidic again. When we drink more alkaline water, more hydrochloric acid is secreted to maintain the stomach pH value. It seems like a losing battle.
However, when you understand how the stomach wall makes hydrochloric acid, your concerns will disappear. A pathologist friend of mine gave me the following explanation. There is no hydrochloric acid pouch in our body. If there were, it would burn a hole in our body. The cells in our stomach wall must produce it on an instantly-as-needed basis. The ingredients in the stomach cell that make hydrochloric acid (HCl) are carbon dioxide (CO2), water (H2O), and sodium chloride (NaCl) or potassium chloride (KCl). NaCl + H2O + CO2 = HCl + NaHCO3, or
KCl + H2O + CO2 = HCl + KHCO3
As we can see, the byproduct of making hydrochloric acid is sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) or potassium bicarbonate (KHCO3), which goes into blood stream. These bicarbonates are the alkaline buffers that neutralize excess acids in the blood; they dissolve solid acid wastes into liquid form. As they neutralize the solid acidic wastes, extra carbon dioxide is released, which is discharged through the lungs. As our body gets old, these alkaline buffers get low; this phenomenon is called acidosis. This is a natural occurrence as our body accumulates more acidic waste products. There is, therefore, a relationship between the aging process and the accumulation of acids.
By looking at the pH value of the stomach alone, it seems that alkaline water never reaches the body. But when you look at the whole body, there is a net gain of alkalinity as we drink alkaline water. Our body cells are slightly alkaline. In order for them to produce acid, they must also produce alkaline, and vice versa; just as a water ionizer cannot produce alkaline water without producing acid water, since tap water is almost neutral.
When the stomach pH value gets higher than 4, the stomach knows what to do to lower it. However, if the pH value goes below 4, for any reason, the stomach doesn’t know what to do. That’s why we take Alka-Seltzer, which is alkaline, to relieve acidic stomach gas pain. In this case, hydrochloric acid is not produced by the stomach wall, therefore, no alkaline buffer is being added to the blood stream.
Let me give you another example of a body organ that produces acid in order to produce alkaline. After the food in the stomach is digested, it must come out to the small intestine. The food at this point is so acidic that it will damage the intestine wall. In order to avoid this problem, the pancreas makes alkaline juice (known as pancreatic juice). This juice is sodium bicarbonate, and is mixed with the acidic food coming out of the stomach. From the above formulae, in order to produce bicarbonates, the pancreas must make hydrochloric acid, which goes into our blood stream.
We experience sleepiness after a big meal (not during the meal or while the food is being digested in the stomach), when the digested food is coming out of the stomach; that’s the time when hydrochloric acid goes into our blood. Hydrochloric acid is the main ingredient in antihistamines and that is what causes drowsiness.
Alkaline or acid produced by the body must have an equal and opposite acid or alkaline produced by the body; therefore, there is no net gain. However, alkaline supplied from outside the body, like drinking alkaline water, results in a net gain of alkalinity in our body.

Many of us know we should drink more water, but do you know if you are drinking enough each day?
Well the good news is, there's a few simple things you can do to make sure you are keeping your body properly hydrated.
#1 - Calculate your daily water requirement
It is generally agreed among the naturopaths and nutritionists we work with that you should drink 1 litre of water for every 25kgs of body weight.
So simply divide your weight by 25 and that is the amount of water in litres you need to drink every day to replenish the fluid you lose through sweating, urinating, speaking, breathing, etc.
If you are exercising, drinking soft drinks, tea or coffee or ill you need to drink more as the body's water need is higher.
#2 - Check our your urine throughout the day
When we first get up in the morning and go to the toilet is it normal for your urine to be a dark yellow. But throughout the day, as you continually hydrate yourself, your urine should almost be colourless, and not have a strong smell as a result. This means you are well hydrated.
Simply, the darker your urine throughout the day , the more dehydrated you are physically.
#3 – Check for symptoms of dehydration
This is a fairly basic health check we can do, but most of us are not aware of the basic symptoms of being dehydrated.
"By the time dry mouth becomes an indicator of water shortage, many delicate functions of the body have been shut down and prepared for deletion. A dehydrated body loses sophistication and versatility."
Dr F Batmanghelidj, Author “Your Body’s Many Cries for Water”
So what are some of the signs of dehydration?
You may begin to yawn in an attempt to get more oxygen to the brain
You may start to crave sweet foods in an attempt to increase blood sugars
Sleepiness may overtake you as your brain struggles to satisfy its own oxygen demands
The Pituitary Gland releases a hormone called Anti Diuretic Hormone (ADH). The ADH causes the body to store fluid, a reflex action to create a fluid reservoir in case the water shortage becomes even more critical. If water intake is low and there is none in the bowel, the contents of the bowel become very dry and compacted, resulting in constipation.
So the simple thing to do is calculate your daily water intake, and ensure you drink that amount each day. Remember though, not all water is the same, and for that reason, we recommend you drink an Alkaline Mineralised Water for optimum health and wellbeing.
