FOUNDERS' STORY

Vanessa Drummond (left) and Janet Parker (right) launched zazen in 2008 because they became aware of the alarming trends regarding the Australian & New Zealand child health & wellbeing trends and felt a deep responsibility to act.

When we first heard the fact that the current generation will be the first generation to live a shorter lifespan than previous generations, we were shocked, and felt a deep responsibility to act. Especially for me, with 23 nieces and nephews ranging from the ages of 5 to 25.

We asked ourselves, what ONE THING can we do to have the GREATEST IMPACT?

We knew NOT ALL WATER IS THE SAME. We have seen and experienced the difference in people’s general health and energy levels from drinking an alkaline, mineralised water.

No amount of good food, juice and milk will compensate for a lack of water in children’s bodies. Proper hydration with sufficient quality and quantity water is paramount to the health, vitality and longevity of our children.

Our mission is to give every child free access to the highest quality drinking water all day every day in school (at no cost to the school) - we believe it’s their right!

Why are we doing this? After extensive research, we simply found that no one else was focused on the importance of child hydration and the essential health properties of water. All government health initiatives are focused on healthy foods education and whilst the Australian Government has spent tens of millions of dollars advertising the water conservation issue, there has been not one advertisement on the health benefits of drinking water which could have a major impact on the national health standard in Australia.

zazen was thus created as a social business enterprise where we measure our success on:

the number of children educated on the Secret of Water through our Water Ambassador Lessons; and
the number of free zazen systems in classrooms throughout Australia.

One of our key Social Projects, developed to achieve this vision is the zazen Water School Program, which was launched in 2008 in Australia, and so far we have gifted over $150,000 in zazen systems and replacement filters to over 30 schools throughout Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria with our awesome team who are passionate and committed – we are grateful to each and every one of them. We are focused on achieving our mission and couldn't do it without the support of our wonderful customers, our Health Practitioner Partners, and our local zazen Water Angels who work alongside the schools in their local communities.
